10 Steps to Protect Your Furbabies During Winter! - Axel Roze Pets

Here at Axel Roze Pets, we love winter as the season to cozy up with our furbabies, and enjoy watching the snowfall. The colder weather does present some risks for furry companions though, and that's why we put together this quick list of some simple steps you can take to keep your pets safe and healthy this winter!

  1. Keep Them Indoors: During extreme cold, keep pets indoors as much as possible. Ensure they have a warm, comfortable space to rest.

  2. Provide Proper Bedding: Ensure your pet has cozy bedding in a draft-free area. Use blankets or specialized pet beds to keep them warm.

  3. Limit Outdoor Time: Reduce outdoor walks and playtime in extreme cold. When they do go outside, monitor their time and watch for signs of discomfort.

  4. Use a Pet Coat or Sweater: For small, short-haired, or senior pets, invest in a pet coat or sweater to provide extra warmth when they go outside.

  5. Protect Paws: Snow, ice, and salt can irritate your pet’s paws. Consider using pet-safe balm or wearing booties to protect their feet.

  6. Hydration and Nutrition: Ensure your pets stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet. Cold weather can increase their energy needs.

  7. Update ID Tags: Make sure all pets have updated ID tags with current information in case they get lost in the snow.

  8. Monitor Heat Sources: If you use space heaters or fireplaces, keep them out of reach of pets to prevent burns or accidental fires.

  9. Beware of Toxic Substances: Keep antifreeze and other toxic chemicals out of reach, and be cautious with holiday plants that may be harmful to pets.

  10. Regular Vet Check-ups: Schedule regular veterinary visits to ensure your pet is healthy and to discuss any concerns regarding winter care.
